(Born in Notting Hill, London) Naomi C Robinson lives and works in London. She has been creative from a very young age and has been developing her artistic talents in art and design since she left secondary school with an A* in Art and Design. Formally trained at Chelsea College of Art studying a BTEC National in Art and Design, Naomi’s tutors recognised her natural creative flair for illustration. Naomi was quickly offered a place to study BA honours in Visual Communication Design pathway illustration at Middlesex University, graduating with a 2.1 merit. After graduating, she freelanced for a while before taking on a role as a Designer for a book publisher working on book covers, corporate branding and marketing material.
Over the years Naomi has continued to develop her style, and her skill and love for illustration and typography has since grown. Naomi exhibits her work in group shows every year, some of which include: A View of London, London Transport Museum 2009, The Sketchbook Project Ltd, The Brooklyn Art Library, NYC 2012, SPARKLE THE DARK UP, Design Museum 2012, Mail Me Art 4, London 2013, and Handmade Christmas O2, The O2 London 2013.
Naomi regularly donate her art to raise money to charities such as The Sickle Cell Society and The Fire Fighters Charity 2010, BIG Team Scribble for UNICEF 2010, Albi’s Movember for Movember Foundation 2012 and The Art for Ark’s Sake for Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice 2013.
In 2010 Naomi began self-publishing her work as prints and greeting cards. It all started with her first craft stall in Portobello Markets’, Art and Design Market, Westway London. She then opened up her first online store to sell original prints and stationery internationally via Etsy. Following her online success, local gift shops requested her products wholesale and she now sells to a growing number of shops around London.
Naomi has worked in publishing for 7 years and is founder and MD of her own company, Nyha Graphics. She works as creative consultant, graphic designer and illustrator and supplies creative solutions for companies such as London Sports Trust, Bella Networking, Real Nice Lollies, London Borough Hammersmith & Fulham.
Naomi describes her illustration style as colourful, whimsical and bold. Her creative process always starts with a sketch or thumbnail to lay out composition, she then has a mixed media approach which begins with traditional pen and ink, experimenting with textures, scanned in elements and retro palettes which gives her art a touch of nostalgia.
Naomi’s newest venture is Nyha Cards, a bold new range of greeting cards featuring multicultural designs, suitable for both adult and children’s markets.
Most recently Naomi has been busy illustrating her first children’s book Ziggie Tales: Ziggies Big Adventure for author Kathleen M Wainwright that recently launched in April 2014.
We at Slave2thevibe are big fans of Naomi’s work and would recommend you check out her website where you can find out more about her and the projects she is involved in. Nyha is also on Facebook and you can follow her via Twitter
